The following case is extracted from “The Art of Applying Comprehensive Metaphysics” Grand Dharma Function in Malaysia on 28 August 2011. Master Lu performed Totem Enquiries live on stage and answered questions from the audience to help them overcome difficulties in their health, career, and everyday issues.
When a person is asking Master Lu to perform Totem Enquiry, if a living person is being enquired, then the year of birth and the Chinese zodiac sign of that person should be stated. If a deceased person is being enquired, then the full name of the deceased and the exact written characters of the name should be stated.

Enquirer: Deepest gratitude to Master Lu. Master. I was born in 1971, year of the Pig. Could you please help me to take a look at my… My throat, and my chest.
Master Lu: 1971, year of the Pig, right?
Enquirer: Hm. Throat, chest, digestive system, and lower abdomen.
Master Lu: Lower abdomen is not good. There are foreign spirits in the throat. Recite 7 Little Housesfor your throat, and that will do. Okay? In your lower abdomen, you have a chronic illness. A long-term one. The digestive system is not good.
Enquirer: The digestive system is not good. Also, the breasts.
Master Lu: What?

Master Lu: What?
Enquirer: Do I need to specify which body part?
Master Lu: Don’t do that. You can say, “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless me, <full name>, grant me good health.” Okay?
Enquirer: For my digestive system, do I need to recite Little Houses? Digestive system.
Master Lu: Digestive system is okay. 7 Little Houses will do. Okay? You should keep your digestive system warm.
Enquirer: Hm, I understand. My digestive system is indeed very adverse to cold.
Master Lu: See? Very adverse to cold.
Enquirer: As soon as I’m exposed to too much cold air, I would have diarrhoea and so on.
Master Lu: You would have diarrhoea as soon as you’re exposed to too much cold air.
Enquirer: Yes, if I eat cold things I would also have diarrhoea.
Master Lu: You have diarrhoea after eating cold things. You also have diarrhoea if you have milk.
Enquirer: Yes, yes, yes. I can’t drink milk. Master, you’re so accurate. Thank you very much.
Master Lu: Ha ha.
Enquirer: Last time you said that I had a child that I aborted and the foreign spirit was on my lower abdomen. I recited 21 Little Houses. Could you please take a look and see if the foreign spirit has proceeded to a better place?
Master Lu: Yes, it’s gone.
Enquirer: Oh, the child visited me in my dream.
Master Lu: See? The child visited her in her dream. Usually, after reciting Little Houses for aborted children, if the children have proceeded to a better place, they would visit their mother in their dream.
Enquirer: Yes. I recited 21 Little Houses.
Master Lu: Okay, alright. Can’t ask anymore.
Enquirer: I would like to adjust my Daily Recitation. I’m reciting the Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou) 21 times per day, Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching) 21 times per day, Cundi Dharani (Chun Ti Shen Chou) 49 times per day, Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Ta Chan Hui Wen) 5 times per day, Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots (Chieh Chieh Chou) 49 times per day, Jvala Mahaugra Dharani (Hsiao Tsai Chi Hsiang Shen Chou) 49 times per day, Amitabha Pure Land Rebirth Mantra (Wang Sheng Chou) 49 times per day, and Sri Devi Dharani (Ta Chi Hsiang Tien Nu Chou) 21 times per day. Master Lu: My goodness. You recite so many sutras and mantras.
Enquirer: Is it too much? I also think it’s too much.
Master Lu: It’s too much. You need to provide specific treatment for specific symptoms. If your health is poor, you should remember that you need to recite the Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou) to increase your “Yang” energy.
Enquirer: Yes.
Master Lu: The recitation of the Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching) is to develop and gain wisdom.
Enquirer: Yes.
Master Lu: The recitation of the Cundi Dharani (Chun Ti Shen Chou) is for your wishes to come true.
Enquirer: Yes.
Master Lu: The recitation of the Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance (Li Fo Ta Chan Hui Wen) is for you to obtain good health by eliminating the karmic obstacles in your body. Karmic obstacles are due to negative karmas.
Enquirer: Yes.
Master Lu: The recitation of the Cintamani Cakravartin Dharani (Ju Yi Pao Lun Wang To Lo Ni) is to help you to have good fortune.
Enquirer: Oh.
Master Lu: That’s enough. You should recite the Amitabha Pure Land Rebirth Mantra (Wang Sheng Chou) to eliminate your karmic obstacles due to negative karmas from the live animals that you ate in the past.
Enquirer: Okay. Do I need to recite the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots (Chieh Chieh Chou)?
Master Lu: For the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots (Chieh Chieh Chou), If you feel that you don’t have any negative karmic ties with anybody, then you don’t need to recite it for the time being.
Enquirer: Oh, the Jvala Mahaugra Dharani (Hsiao Tsai Chi Hsiang Shen Chou) is also not necessary.
Master Lu: Jvala Mahaugra Dharani (Hsiao Tsai Chi Hsiang Shen Chou), you don’t have any calamities at the moment.
Enquirer: Hm.
Master Lu: For you, it’s just that things aren’t going according to plan.
Enquirer: Things aren’t going according to plan. Oh.
Master Lu: Do you understand?
Enquirer: I haven’t recited that sutra before.
Master Lu: Ah, that’s right. You recite more and then you’ll become fluent.
Enquirer: That’s why things aren’t going according to plan.
Master Lu: That’s right. Things aren’t going according to plan because you haven’t recited it. Ha ha ha.Alright?
